Week 1 of lecture phase here at YWAM Brisbane was incredible. If I could describe this past week in two words, it would be mind blowing. The theme of this lecture week was The Character and Nature of God. I've never been in so much awe of my God's creation. On Tuesday we watched a video of a man named Louie Giglio and he showed real, unedited sounds that distant stars and planets make. That in and of itself was crazy, but it got even better when they layered all of the sounds on top of each other and it made the melody of the worship song "How Great is Our God" with a beat to it. It was unedited, pure sounds from space and my head almost exploded! My God is so creative and musical and He speaks to us in the most interesting ways.
The rest of the week was just learning about more characteristics of God and digging deeper into that subject. The speaker we had was a very sweet lady named Barbara from Switzerland. She was so anointed and explained everything so well. It's Monday now and I'm still amazed by the lectures from last week and constantly in awe of my God's character and creation.
We got assigned work duties that we do each week for about 7 hours. They're things like cleaning, maintenance, grounds, etc. and I got super lucky with mine. I get to work at the cafe for a couple hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It is so much fun! It's like being back at home working at Starbucks, except I know most of the customers, and the others I don't know, I instantly become friends with. I've started to notice how easily you can build strong relationship with people here. I'm making lots of new friends that I know are going to last a lifetime.
This weekend was so chill. We were doing stuff most of our time during the week, like lectures, meetings, intercession, worship, etc. so it felt great to have two days off to do whatever we wanted. On Saturday we caught a train to Sunshine Coast at 7:30 AM. After about 2 and a half hours of traveling, I got to see an Aussie beach for the first time. Sunshine Coast is very chill, lots of cool skate/surf shops, coffee shops, and great food. We swam for a bit body surfing the huge waves, ate fish and chips (I just ate chips because ew fish), I even found a Starbucks! I feel like I made it to the promised land when I gained sight of the green and white siren. Who knew I would miss Starbucks so much! My friends Mitch, Isaac, and I ended the rest of our day walking down the beach exploring. I was able to snag some pics while we were there so here are a few:
We got back from Sunny Coast pretty late and we were exhausted. I went to bed with a smile on my face knowing I could sleep in. Sunday was also relaxing. I went to a coffee shop and wrote in my weekly journal for homework, bought some clothes at my favourite store Cotton On, and then edited photos at Maccas for 5 hours! I don't think I've ever been at a McDonalds for that long, but they have great wifi so I had too! That night I watched a bunch of very talented musicians play at an open mic while I sipped on some Byron Chai tea in the café. It was a pretty solid day!
This week our lectures are focused on Hearing the Voice of God and I am so pumped!! It's gonna be a great week and I am very psyched to see what God stills has in store for us!
